You may have seen the big fencing on Main Street in front of the Casa Tina restaurant and wondered what might be happening.

This Phase 1 Main Street Sidewalk Enhancement initiative will improve walkability and overall aesthetics on the south section of Main Street from Douglas Avenue to the Pinellas Trail.

Presently, the sidewalk cross-slope is far too steep and is not  ADA friendly. To correct this deficiency, and to improve pedestrian safety, the sidewalk pavers will be replaced at a new grade and the curb and angled parking will be adjusted to a matching elevation.

The brick paver replacement will wrap the corner of Douglas Avenue and Main Street and extend south to the entrance of the alley behind Skip’s Bar.

In addition, to a wider brick sidewalk the project will feature comprehensive landscaping enhancements such as shade trees.

Work has stated and is anticipated final completion by the end of October.

Business access will be maintained at all times. Work will be performed incrementally and in coordination with the businesses. Similarly, staff met with the impacted businesses at City Hall on May 10th to share the design intent and overall project approach, as well as to field their questions. The businesses are excited about the project.
