Golf Carts in Dunedin

The City of Dunedin has worked hard to provide plenty of streets and crossings for our residents to enjoy carting the streets. Please remember, safety is our #1 concern!

Where can I drive my golf cart within the City limits?

  • Only on roads that have a posted speed of 30 miles per hour or less.
  • Golf carts may only cross State or County roads at such locations that have been specifically designated and sign posted for golf cart crossings.
  • Golf carts are not permitted anywhere on the Pinellas Trail.
  • Golf cart usage is is not permitted on sidewalks, parks, or other portions of City property.

Registration

Golf Carts operating within Dunedin must be registered each year in accordance with Sec. 74-206 of City Code.

ALL RENEWALS AND REGISTRATIONS ARE FOR THE 2023 CALENDAR YEAR ONLY.  AT THIS TIME WE DO NOT HAVE DECALS FOR 2024.

A staff member will contact you about payment of the $10.00 initial registration (or annual renewal) fee after processing your 2023 application.

  • Red reflecting warning devices in front and rear
  • Horn, safe tires, rear view mirror, efficient brakes, reliable steering
  • Seat belts (if children under age 16 are passengers)
  • Night time operating equipment:
    • Headlights
    • Brake lights
    • Turn signal
    • Windshield
Regulations

Golf carts must be registered with the City of Dunedin (see Golf Cart Registration above).

The Florida Driver's Handbook rules apply to both automobile and golf cart operations. Violation of Florida Statutes 316.212, 316.2125 or other provisions of the Florida Statutes may result in being issued a traffic citation.

Per Florida Statutes and City of Dunedin Ordinance, the maximum allowable golf cart speed is 20 miles per hour.

Unlicensed children under 16 years of age are not allowed to drive golf carts on City of Dunedin streets even when accompanied by a licensed adult.

 

Parking

When designated golf cart spaces are not available, golf carts should be parked side by side or in a manner that two golf carts can fit within a vehicle parking space. Disabled accessible parking spaces may be used in the same manner as long as the cart complies with the law for use of these spaces.

Special Event parking in City parks: Parking may be designated in green spaces or the surrounding areas. Please follow parking directional signage.

Can I drive my golf cart in the park?
No, except where designated. Golf carts are not allowed in or on City parks, green spaces, the Pinellas Trail, sidewalks, or any other public lands except where specifically designated for golf cart use.

How do I access Highlander Park?

  1. Parking lots are available on Harvard Avenue, Ed Eckert Drive, next to the Dunedin Fine Art Center, and at the Dunedin Community Center.
  2. Golf cart access from the south is available via Patricia Avenue bridge and Idlewild Drive pathway.
  3. Golf carts must remain on designated shell path and park in vehicle parking areas only as shown on Highlander Park Cart Path Map(PDF, 782KB)

Where do I park during special events?
For downtown events, please park in vehicle parking areas only. For events in City parks, event parking may be designated in green spaces or the surrounding areas. Please follow parking directional signage.
