Recreating can be beneficial for personal growth, exploration of new interests, and rejuvenation of creativity. It allows you to break away from routine, discover new perspectives, and recharge your mind and body. During the summer months, recreation offers a myriad of possibilities, from outdoor activities like hiking, swimming, and camping to leisurely pursuits such as picnics, barbecues, and exploring local attractions. Whether you prefer the tranquility of nature or the excitement of City life, there’s something for everyone to enjoy during the summer.

Summer camps offer numerous benefits for children and teenagers, including social skills development, physical activity, skill-building, confidence building, nature appreciation, unplugging from technology, and lifelong friendships.

Camps provide opportunities for kids to interact with peers in a new environment, fostering teamwork, communication, and cooperation. Many camps offer a range of outdoor activities that promote physical fitness, from sports to hiking and swimming, helping campers stay active and healthy. Specialized programs allow campers to learn new skills or improve existing ones, such as arts and crafts, music, sports, swimming, or outdoor survival skills. Accomplishing new challenges and making friends can boost self-esteem and confidence, helping campers develop a positive self-image. Providing opportunities for kids to connect with nature, promotes an appreciation for the environment and encourages stewardship. Often limited or no access to screens, allows campers to disconnect from digital devices and enjoy the outdoors and face-to-face interactions. Also, camps create a supportive community where campers form bonds with peers and counselors, leading to lasting friendships and memories.

Overall, summer camps offer a holistic experience that promotes personal growth, social development, and fun-filled adventures.

Once again, this summer, the Dunedin Parks & Recreation Department has put together a diverse range of activities, ensuring that there’s something for everyone. New specialty camps have been added that pair nicely with the oldies but goodies traditional camps. New this summer, Bricks 4 Kidz, allows for campers to create a variety of LEGO brick models. Another new program, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), campers get to become problem solvers, build critical thinking skills, and learn to collaborate. For campers who prefer to use their physical capabilities, we have added a softball camp. In this camp, the focus will be on hitting, fielding, base running, game situations, and overall good sportsmanship.  Also new this summer, Freshwater Fishing Adventures. In this session, campers will learn the basics of fishing while traveling Dunedin’s natural resources. All of the new camps are just a sprinkle of the camps that are being offered this summer.

To not be out done, our traditional camps are back and are filled with new themes, activities, field trips and are ready to create new and exciting memories.
