The City of Dunedin is committed to hearing from its residents through biennial Citizen Surveys.  The 2022 survey, conducted by Research Data Services, Inc. (RDs) ran from February to March 2022 and garnered 1715 responses.  The first Citizen Survey was conducted in 2019 and while the goal is to remain on a schedule of conducting a survey every other year, COVID impacted the plans to host the 2021 survey.  Moving forward, the City will work on a consistent deployment of the citizen survey to occur in even years and conducted in the early spring.

The results of the 2022 survey were presented to the City Commission on May 17, 2022.  You can review the full presentation of data here or watch the presentation and City Commission discussion here.  Residents were asked to provide feedback and indicate satisfaction levels with all types of services, events, facilities, and departments.  We are proud to report the City received an overall satisfaction of 93.6% for all City Services!  Satisfaction was top rated amongst fire services (99.4%), the library (98.7%), parks and recreation (96.2%) and solid waste and recycling (96%).

Overall City Ratings:

  • As a Place to Live: 98.4%
  • As a Place to Work: 85.9%
  • As a Place to Retire: 96.1%
  • As a City that respects diversity: 89.6%

The survey also provided opportunities for respondents to identify top areas of concern.  These are particularly useful as they provide feedback to the City Commission and City Staff on how to prioritize projects and funding.

While respondents indicated a 95.3% satisfaction with Public Safety, they also expressed concerns over Pinellas Trail Safety, Pedestrian Safety, Traffic/Vehicular Safety, Bicycle Safety, and Road Crossings.

Parks and Recreation received an overall satisfaction rating of 96.2% with top rated facilities being the Dunedin Fine Arts Center and the Community Center.  Parks services saw high ratings in the areas of park proximity to resident homes (97.1%) and park maintenance (95.8%).  Residents indicated they would support funding towards improving water access (63%), replacing the pool (39%), adding a dog park (36.7%), adding pickleball court (30.8%) and adding tennis courts (11.9%).
Three particular opportunity areas stood out amongst the survey: Planning for the Future, Traffic, and Affordable Housing.  These rated the least satisfied and were also supported by residents towards allocating resources to improving these areas.

There were a few areas where the City showed marked improvements toward moving the needle in a positive direction.  Those areas were Business Opportunities at 85.3% (up 5.5% from 2019), Communications at 84.1% (up 3.2% from 2019), and Public Transportation at 72.0% (up 4.9% from 2019).

The 2022 Survey data has provided the City with a wealth of data, feedback, and sentiment from our residents.  This information aids in helping the City to continue to improve upon and address your priorities.  We will be taking the next weeks and months to formulate and enact an action plan for the City to focus resources towards improving the areas of concerns and responding to resident’s feedback.  For the many of you who participated in the survey, thank you for your time and for providing your valuable comments and feedback.  We appreciate your time!  Please stay tuned by subscribing to the City’s newsletter, monitoring Commission meeting agendas, or following the City’s official social media pages for more information on the upcoming action plan.
