Storm Debris Collections

• Storm Debris Collection from Hurricanes Helene and Milton will resume next week, no later than Tuesday, October 15 or Wednesday, October 16. Contract haulers are returning to the area after being evacuated outside of Florida prior to the arrival of Hurricane Milton.

  City residents are encouraged to assist with efficient collection of hurricane debris by segregating piles at the curb as much as possible (i.e.: construction debris, vegetation, white goods [appliances], and household hazardous waste [paint cans, cleaning supplies, etc.)

  Collections will focus on the most impacted areas first. Notifications will be available via social media posts, City website updates, DunediNEWS and Variable Message Board (VMB) signs placed along certain roadways.

  Everyone’s patience and understanding are greatly appreciated as we diligently work to clear volume levels of debris resulting from two back-to-back hurricane events impacting our area. City staff have been working non-stop for several weeks, and are doing everything they can to provide relief and assistance to our residents. City personnel and equipment continue to support these debris collection efforts, as well as addressing life safety activities such as: production of water, road clearing, repairs to critical infrastructure, etc.

Trash & Recycling

• Solid Waste resumed regular household and commercial trash & recycling collections only (no yard waste) on Friday, Oct. 11 for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday customers. Please put bins at the curb and leave them there until collected. And please bag all food waste in white kitchen garbage bags so it is not confused with storm debris. We ask for patience as our crews work all weekend to catch up from the storm.

Traffic Safety Reminders

• Emergency response and road clearing crews continue their response and recovery work, which will be ongoing throughout the next several days. Be respectful of road crews and slow down at all work zones. Power still has not been restored to large parts of the county, which includes many traffic lights. If you must drive and approach a downed intersection, treat it as a four-way stop.

• Do not drive in flooded waters which could be exposed to live power lines, sewage and safety hazards. Turn around, don’t drown.

City Updates 

City Hall Cooling/Charging Station

Dunedin City Hall will be closed for normal business through the end of the week but will be open Friday, October 11, through Sunday, October 13, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. as a "cooling/charging station" for those without power. Please remember to bring your chargers! 

Water and Wastewater

• The Dunedin drinking water system is operational and the water is safe to drink.

• The Wastewater system is now fully restored; we still encourage you to conserve water at this time. 

Closures/Cancelations

• Achieva Dog Park is now open.

• The Dunedin Marina continues to be closed until further notice as it has extensive damage from both Helene and Milton.

• City facilities will be closed Thursday, Oct 10 through Friday, October 11. City Hall, the Library, and all City recreation facilities (Community Center, Hale Center and MLK) will open Monday regular hours.

• The Downtown Market is closed Saturday, October 12.

Volunteering  

• Individuals interested in volunteering can sign up via Volunteer Connect, a statewide online portal to match volunteers with organizations that are looking for help here: volunteerflorida.org/volunteerconnect.

Hurricane Disaster Recovery Resources

• FEMA assistance is now available to Pinellas County residents who experienced damages/losses due to Hurricane Milton. Disaster assistance may include financial help for temporary lodging, basic home repairs and other disaster-caused expenses. Eligible residents can apply online at DisasterAssistance.gov, using the FEMA app, or by phone at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362).
  
  
• Don’t Be Scammed by Contractors. To search for licensed contractors and verify contractor licenses go to: https://www.myfloridalicense.com/

• The Disaster Distress Helpline is open and provides 24/7 toll-free, multilingual disaster crisis counseling for anyone experiencing emotional distress related to disasters. Call or text 1-800-985-5990.

• Residents who need help cleaning up damage can request assistance through the Crisis Cleanup at (844) 965-1386 or by visiting crisiscleanup.org. Local voluntary relief organizations will respond to these requests.

• Residents needing disaster assistance, including cleanup kits, can contact the American Red Cross at 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).  

• HOPE Florida is assisting residents with unmet needs. The HOPE Line can be reached at 1-833-GET-HOPE (1-833-438-4673) or at hopeflorida.com.
  
  
• Feeding Tampa Bay is offering food pantries and food distribution events in Pinellas County for residents impacted by Hurricanes Helene and  Milton. The latest information can be found at disaster.pinellas.gov

Disaster Assistance for Businesses

• Florida Commerce and the State Emergency Response Team (SERT) activated the Business Damage Assessment Survey in response to Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Business owners can self-report physical and economic damage caused by Hurricane Milton. Businesses can complete the survey online by visiting https://floridadisaster.biz/Respond/BusinessDamageAssessmentsSurvey and selecting “Hurricane Milton” from the dropdown menu.
• Florida Commerce activated the Florida Small Business Emergency Bridge Loan Program, making $15 million available for businesses impacted by Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Florida small business owners in need of assistance are encouraged to visit  FloridaJobs.org/EBL to apply for the Florida Small Business Emergency Bridge Loan Program. Businesses in Pinellas County, including sole proprietors, are eligible to apply.

The City of Dunedin’s Wastewater Department suggests to do the following before/after/during a storm:

• Make sure your cleanout caps are snug and secure so sewer cannot escape.
• Stay out of the water in the streets! Although it is not wastewater, that water is full of bacteria!
• Conserve water when possible. Even if your power is on and you’re able to use every facility in your house- please think twice as the Wastewater Treatment Plant is already treating extra water from the storm!
• If you see any open manholes, manholes with shifted lids, or manholes without lids- notify the Wastewater Department as soon as possible.
• In Dunedin, Wastewater and Stormwater are separate collection systems, discharging to different places. Find each department’s contact information below:
