About Parks & Recreation

The Dunedin Parks & Recreation Department is dedicated to improving the quality of life for our residents and visitors. We are proud to provide 29 parks and over 350 acres of green space dedicated to public use for hiking, biking, playing and picnicking. We also offer family-friendly events and a wide array of recreational classes and programs for all ages and abilities to help improve your physical, mental and social well-being.

Strategic Plan

The purpose of the Parks & Recreation Strategic Plan(PDF, 11MB) is to better identify and meet existing demands for facilities and services, while also planning for future demands associated with Dunedin's population over the next ten years.

Volunteer
Special Events & Programs

If you, your teenager, or a special interest/non-profit group are interested in volunteering for various holiday events, programs, or administrative work, we would love to hear from you! This is a great opportunity to volunteer with friends, fulfill service hours, and be a part of fun, traditional community events. Senior Center

The Hale Senior Activity Center, located at 330 Douglas Ave., Dunedin FL, is also seeking volunteers to help with office work, answering phones and other administrative duties. Please call 727-298-3299 or email us.

Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee

This Committee serves in an advisory capacity to the Parks & Recreation Department and the City Commission. Members provide their insight and understanding of the desires and needs of the community as it relates to programs, services and facilities, as well as assisting in developing long-range master plans to adequately serve the residents and visitors of Dunedin.

Causeway & Coastal Waterways Advisory Committee

This Committee monitors and reviews issues regarding the Dunedin Causeway and the coastal waterways of Dunedin.

This Committee acts in an advisory capacity to the City Commission regarding the well-being of the current senior adult population.

Friends of the Hammock

The Friends of the Hammock (FOTH) is a non-profit group created in 1995 to help provide support for educational, beautification, management and charitable programs associated with Hammock Park. If you would like to help support the park through events, habitat restoration, education, and more, please visit www.HammockPark.org.

 

Hammock Advisory Committee

This Committee helps analyze environmental and ecological conditions in Hammock Park and makes recommendations to protect and preserve it as a unique remnant of the original hammock forest.

Marina Advisory Committee

This Committee assists in the operation of the Marina as a self-sufficient enterprise.

U.S. Military Veterans Advisory Committee

The Committee alerts the City Commission and the community of the changing needs of the Veteran population such as effective integration of those who have served. The Committee helps promote programs and services which contribute to the quality of life for the Veterans in Dunedin.

The U.S. Military Veterans Advisory Committee sponsors a Veteran Owned/Friendly Business Recognition program for businesses in Dunedin. Once approved, businesses will receive a recognition decal to display in their window.

This Committee addresses issues affecting youth and teens of our community and provides an opportunity to enhance the leadership skills and civic involvement among Dunedin’s youth.

Dunedin for Youth Scholarship Fund

The George J. Koutsourais Dunedin for Youth Scholarship Fund was established in memory of former Mayor/Commissioner Manual G. Koutsourais' son through a resolution by the Dunedin City Commission. The purpose of the Scholarship Fund is to generate contributions and donations from individuals, businesses, and organizations to be used towards providing financial assistance to young children and teens of Dunedin whose families could not afford to register them for summer camps and other recreational programs.

The Dunedin for Youth Scholarship Fund helps children build:

  • Self Confidence & Responsibility
  • Healthy Lifestyles & Perseverance
  • Friendships
