Enjoying Dunedin

Visioning Workshop PhotosDear Dunedin Citizens,

The Visioning Process was initiated by the City Commission in late-2004. As the City moves forward, growth and redevelopment are both desired and inevitable. The true challenge will be to grow "smart."

It is for this reason that the Commission directed City Staff to work with an independent expert to set forth a vision for the future which protects our charming City, beautiful waterfront and overall excellent quality of life.

Thanks to those who attended the Community Visioning Workshops, which were held on May 9th and 14th. Input given at those sessions was very important to the City and will help shape the future direction of the City of Dunedin over the next 10 to 20 years.

Currently, the City - through its independent consultant HDR, a national planning firm - is in the process of assembling and analyzing the various data that was obtained from the sessions.

During the visioning sessions, Dunedin neighbors studied numerous aspects of the City by performing a SWOT analysis, a look at the City's strengths, weaknesses opportunities and threats. In addition to the SWOT sequence, time was also spent completing a visual preference survey, and each session prepared a Dunedin mission statement. All of this information is being prepared in summary form, with available results posted on the right hand side of this page.

This is being done to keep you informed and engaged throughout the visioning process. We will periodically update these pages with new findings and information.

Please note that the City Commission will receive an update from our consultants at their next Strategic Long-Term Planning Workshop on Thursday, June 9th. I encourage you to watch Dunedin TV, our City government channel to see the updated results of our visioning process firsthand. The SLTP will be repeated several times on Dunedin TV for your convenience.

Thanks again for your participation during this exciting time in the history of Dunedin as we take an introspective look at our City, and develop new directions and key areas to focus on in the coming years.
